MEET MIKE ALLERS, JR
Mike Allers Jr. is the son of a Policeman turned Educator and a Special Needs Teacher. He was born into a family of service. He wanted to follow his family in making a difference in the community. He worked his way through College-working in the food industry, on political campaigns , and the world of Banking, refusing to take student loans or a dime from anyone.
Mike became a Preschool Teacher in rural Orange County, where he saw first hand the struggles of affording Child Care from young parents who were just getting by. Mike then took a job teaching 4th and 5th grade in Petersburg, where he saw the direct inequities in our school system in Virginia- and how these inequities disproportionately impact children of color. In Petersburg, Mike advocated for his kids and worked with the School Board to fix up a run down playground and helped make the playground safer for students- in an area plagued with crime. Mike is now teaching in Northern Virginia. While on the surface there seems to be more access to a better way of life, Mike sees up close the wealth gap that exists-especially in the 50th District. Mike knew that he had to go beyond the classroom to do more for his former and current students.
In October of 2019, Mike joined Center-Right Blog “Bearing Drift”, in the hopes of bringing a new Millennial driven perspective. With the site, he started the podcast “Grand New Podcast”, in hopes of not only interviewing Virginia’s movers and shakers, but also to have conversations between figures of both parties and those with different views. It has been his way of trying to heal the ever growing partisan divide in our state.
Mike lives in the City of Manassas with his wife Corinne, where they are proud to put down roots. Mike is excited to fight for the people of the 50th in a way they haven’t seen- a bold new approach of new ideas, and a commitment to putting forth policies that actually work- not because they get Retweets. Mike is ready to make the Commonwealth better and accessible for all hardworking Virginians, and restore dignity to the House of Delegates.
